Louisiana Congresscritter Indicted.

Louisiana Congresscritter William “Cold Cash” Jefferson (D-Nigeria) was indicted this afternoon on sixteen counts, including (but not limited to) Solicitation of Bribes, Racketeering and Conspiracy.

Do note — for trivia purposes, if nothing else — that Representative Jefferson has the singular honour of being the first sitting Congresscritter to be tried under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

If found guilty, Congresscritter Jefferson faces a maximum sentence of about 235 years in the Greybar Bed and Breakfast.

And the air smells a touch sweeter this afternoon.

  3. JEfferson, IIRC, was the Congresscritter who commandeered a police/National Guard escort at the height of the Katrina fiasco to retrieve “sensitive documents” from his palatial home. Wonder how much of his bribe swag was included in the retrieved take from that little misuse of government assets.

    I’ll hold off on the Happy Dance until he ACTUALLY heads to prison. He is, after all, a dimocritter.

    The only thing worse than criminal defense attorneys are professional politicians.

  14. He will probably pull a “Paris Hilton” and get away with it. I’ll be surprised if he gets 23.5 MONTHS!

    With time off for good behavior, he should be ready for the next election! And be re-elected in a landslide, once they count the cemeteries!

  17. I’m actually rather proud of my local congress critter. Ms Boyda is the sponsor of the bill that strips the pensions from Congresspersons convicted of a broad number of crimes.

    But again, the operative word there is “convicted”. I will say she is trying….

  18. Given that he is being tried in DC, the same city where Marion Barry was reelected mayor after being busted for drug possession, don’t get your hopes up too soon. Sigh, just another day in the looney bin.
