It’s that time of the year again

Sorry about the lack of posting, but 12-hour shifts are about to kick my fuzzy butt.

Since we all know that my sense of humour is a bit … odd … I present this next song. If you have a delicate stomach, or don’t want to hear a bit of risque language, then you’re probably best off listening to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra piece above.

As for me, well, this one kicked over the old giggle box.

  1. That’s hilarious, LD!!

Makes me want to come up with a recipe for the chihuahua next door!

  2. TSO is amazing, and the second song definitely made me smile 🙂 yayee..

  3. Made my mouth water, I love me some biscuits and Pet milk gravy (condensed milk)made from the drippings from frying the rodents!
My Dad used to eat the heads, thats a little too hard core for me. I don’t like the brains that much.
The Love of My Life would Urp if I cooked them while she was here.

  4. That is so wrong on so many levels. . . I love it. I have to pass this on to a few folks. . . .

Thanks for the chuckle LD. . .

  5. Boy…you ain’t right… (But I’ll bet you’ve heard that before…call it a hunch) 🙂

  6. Mamma gets downright cranky when I cook rodents in the cast iron….

    So I don’t tell her.

  7. Yeah, that’s sick and wrong for so many reasons. Love it. It will be played at the fire station soon.

How do you find this stuff?

  8. The second one – cute.

TSO is my favorite band and the TSO piece is and has been my favorite Christmas song since it first came out. I have everything they’ve ever put out, including the DVD telling the story that that particular video is a part of – which is a wonderfully told little story, too.

  9. Is the last song available on an album? I have the Twisted Christmas volumes 1 and 2, is there a third? If so, I gotta have it!

  10. I haven’t listened to either piece yet, but the comments reminded me of something Daddy told me about squirrel hunting as a kid. He said his grandfather told him to shoot ’em right behind the shoulder. Then he found out Granda liked to fry up the brains with his eggs for breakfast. Daddy said he didn’t like that and that’s why he started shooting the squirrels in the head. He told me head shots are the best on squirrels.

  11. mustanger98 – either we are related or your great-grandfather wasn’t alone – lots of people consider(ed?) the brain to be something of a delicacy. Damned clever of your pop to dispatch the brain before it could be served on the half-shell.

  12. Lawdog, your sense of humor is indeed..singular.

Funny song, though, and I love your writing!

  13. phlegmfatale, Thinking further and I recall my mother’s father telling that it was commonplace when he was growing up on the farm that they’d scramble hog brains with their eggs too. Neither of my parents cared for that either. I guess it’s half in how you were raised and half in how different your taste is to everyone else around you.

  14. Twelve-hour shifts are tough! They say that what doesn’t kill you, makes you really, really sick, right?

Glad I found this place, it’s a lot of fun!

  15. The first carol tune, “carol of the bells”.

Always struck me as pretty ominous tune considering the happy lyrics.

    A certain relentless quality.

  16. Lacy things the wife is missing…
    Didn’t realise… they were missing…

    …walkin’ round in Women’s Underwear…

  17. Chipmunks Roasting, and Teddy the Red-Nosed Senator all in one place! Have I died and gone to heaven?

  18. Thanks for the chuckle, Lawdog.

I know how your business gets this time of year. So, Bless You and your co-workers!

And, thanks for the great amount of enjoyment your writings have given me over the last year.

    Merry Christmas!

  19. mustanger98 – I s’pose if you’re fed a certain thing from the git-go, you’ll never notice it’s nasty. I was visiting a friend’s on a dairy farm in Belgium once (my friend, her 3 sisters and her parents), and at table there was a plate of slices of something with nebulous chucks of wotsits suspended in a matrix of gelatinous gloop. Being the guest and having pride of place, I was handed the plate first, and took a medium size (ugh) slab to be polite (didn’t want to appear to ambitious, but didn’t want to register my horreur either) and then her father took a heaping couple slices, and then my friend and her sisters all turned their noses up. So there I was, choking down the (sweetbreads? I dunno) organ loaf and trying not to sweat with the anxiety of it all. Yes, I bore up manfully, and later on, her pop took me to his farmer friends’ houses who all shared lovely aperitifs of a local liqueur and thereafter, he’d always get out the best whisky in the house when I arrived. I’d say the payoff was mighty for a moment’s discomfort.

I also remember eating squirrel meat at Grandma’s house thirty-some years ago. Stringy, dry, not a good flavor, in my book. No brains were served, though.

By the way, brain tissue is the carrier of the spongiform encephalopathies such as mad cow and other cattle illnesses. Even if it were super-yummy, it’s not a good idea to eat brain, these days.

Sorry for doing a whole post in your comments, LawDog. I ramble.

    Lawdog!!

By the way, thanks for all the funny and thought provoking writing in the past year. Suggest you put together a book, “Tales of Lawdog”. I’d sure buy a copy or three.

Love the Chipmunk song. My girlfriend plays the Chipmunk cd all the time, and this is my revenge!!!
