Two years ago, tomorrow

The first post on The LawDog Files blog went up.

Two years later, something over 800,000 views, 645 posts of varying quality, a couple of blog-children — and here we are.

A rather nice little blog, I fancy, though my personal and professional life have cut into my writings pretty heavily over the last several months — but, still.

I’ve been quoted by a couple of folks — always flattering — and I like to think that my Gentle Readers have come to tolerate the lack of gratuitous profanity; the heavy blue italics; the English (proper) spellings and other little quirks of mine.

Two years. Tempus fugit and all that.

Here’s to you, Gentle Readers, and I hope that The LawDog Files will continue to engage you for the next year — and more.

  1. Congratulations.

But when will we see the end of the pink gorilla suit story?

  2. Sounds like it’s the time for milestones.

I suppose I’d be one of your blog-children, since it was your stories of your youth with your brother that finally kicked me into “I think I could do that” mode.

    I just hit 10K.

    Here’s to you, sir.

  3. Thanks for one of my favorite stops in my blog rounds. I hope you have a happy birthday tomorrow, and a happy blogiversary to you as well.

  4. Congratulations! I also wish to express a hearty “Thank You” for some great stories, and frequent reminders that there are still places in this country where sanity is recognized as the norm, instead of the rare occurance.

  5. Here’s to you, Lawdog…and your great writing that is so entertaining and thought provoking.

  6. I’ll cheerfully read anything you write-here, TFL or THR. You, Tam and MattG are daily fare-and now Peter and Marko too.

Your “English” spelling isn’t really so quirky. I don’t see “kerb” and “tyre”, and when you write about cars, I don’t see “boot” or “wing”. I wouldn’t use those either.

There is, however, a definite “British” flavour to the language, thought process and humour. Blending these seamlessly with a Texas backdrop is a feat.

All very comfortable for me, but then, I’m in Canada.

Reminder: you still owe us two things. The denouement of the Pink Gorilla suit (see first comment for reinforcement), and a book. I’ll take them in either order.

    Well done, sir. More, please.

  7. Happy blogiversary ‘Dog. I’ve been a daily reader since I discovered you, I mis-remember how. Glad I did though. Great stuff.

Even makes me a little misty at times. (Let’s keep that between you and me)

  8. I came late to the party, but read all the archives.

    To echo others, thanks LawDog.

    Cheers!

  9. Happy blogiversary! and thank you for taking the time to write as you do.

  10. “the English (proper) spellings and other little quirks of mine.”

I do so enjoy reading the musings of someone who will take the time and effort necessary to speak (and write) properly.

Having grown up in a small-town newspaper, under the tutelage of a man struggling to overcome having only an 8th grade formal education, I was taught that words mean something. Sentence structure which is commonly understood colloquially must not be used in writing. My hat is doffed, sir.

One last comment: Think PINK, young man. 😀

  11. Thank you, LawDog, for your sharing these fabulous stories of yours with all of us.

Can we have lots more, please.

  12. Well done young fella. I have been reading your words of wisdom for a while and totally enjoy them. Keep up the good work

  13. LawDog,
Yours is my daily first-read Blog and I always check back last at night to see if anything has been added. Days of no posts have not diminished my fervor in the least.
I enjoy your humor and ability to describe events from your Law Enforcement efforts.

One of the things that has kept me returning is your ability to express anger and frustration without resorting to epithets and expletives that were better deleted when used. Your command of the language makes their use unnecessary.

Thank you for all the entertainment and the moments of enlightenment as well.

    Happy Blog birthday.

  14. Thanks! I’m among the vast throngs that await your words of wisdom and gentle humor with baited breath…and how about that Pink Gorilla Story?

    Happy Blogiversary!

  15. Congrats and happy birthday.
Many thanks for a truly wonderous and incredibly well written blog. You possess a rare commodity these days in the form of wit… long may it last and prosper
So…… about the pink gorilla then… *grin*

  16. Congratulations and Happy Birthday!

You possess a rare commodity these days in the form of wit… long may it last and prosper
    I second that!

And the calls for the continuation/conclusion of the Pink Gorilla story.

    *wheedle*
    Please?!?

  17. I’ve put up a birthday salute for you at my blog, Dawg. Enjoy! 🙂

  18. Congratulations and happy birthday, LawDog.

As one of your blog children, I can say that your writing has both inspired and entertained me, in equal measure.

Of course, that whole “writing without the use of gratuitous profanity” part still escapes me.

I need to work on that.

  19. Congratulations LD!

Some might think that a two year anniversary would merit the conclusion of the Pink Gorilla (or others) story. Than again, some might think that Hillary or Osama bin Borak will save this nation from all that’s evil…..

    Neither will happen, will it?

Seriously LawDog, I have enjoyed your writings, especially your stories, immensely. I also enjoy the Ambulance Driver’s blog, which I credit you directly with inspiring. So, Happy Anniversary and keep writing!

  20. Happy Blog-versary and Happy Birthday as well!

You, sir, are a gentleman/scholor/warrior. And we need more men like you!

  21. LawDog:

I read you every day and quote you regularly in my blog (ricorant.blogspot.com). Keep up the good work.

  22. LOL, my 17th wedding anniversary was the 23rd so, I missed the festivities or at least showed up late. But it was a GREAT anniversary so, I hope you will accept my apologies *wink*.

I’m proud to say that you were the one that finally motivated me to start up my blog LD. And while mine might look alot like yours, I hope it meets with your approval content wise too…at least some of the time.

I once heard this and I kept it…

You are a scholar, gentleman and irrisitable to all good women and there are so few of us left it’s shameful…*grin*

Congratulations on your own anniversary and may you have many, many more to come.

  23. LawDog,

Thank you for sharing with us the last 2 years! It has been very enjoyable.

    Cheers to another great year!

    Steve

  24. LD, even with all the praise and thanks we give you, I am truly certain that your hat still fits. Don’t know about the pink gorilla suit, however.
Keep writing and – please – many birthdays more.

  25. I have this idea that the Dog should write three books, putting 1/3 of the pink gorilla story in each. Guaranteed sales!

  26. Thanks for putting pen to paper, and delivering these jewels of prose. Also, thanks for proving to The Boss that I’m not the only person this side of the Atlantic who uses “bugger” as an expletive. And now, my grandson, Boomer, who is the coolest two-year-old in the world, when things don’t go well, says “oh, budder!”

    Thanks, and keep ’em coming!
