  1. I liked Equilibrium. Though, it had some major logic faults — it was fun to watch anyway, and I just watched it while ignoring the failing.

  2. Yeah, that was definitely one of the worst movies that I’ve ever enjoyed so much. Logically it didn’t make sense, but the gun kata was worth the price of admission (i.e. a NetFlix rental)

  3. Ummm, Br’er Dog?

You might want to cast a more critical eye at those shirts. Whether by design or by coincidence, the emblems bear a very strong resemblance to the symbols used by certain white surpremacist groups.

Wouldn’t want anyone to get the wrong idea about our fair Maltese-African-Celtic-American deputy.

  4. Many symbols may be mistakenly glimpsed as the 2 stick design recently seen in germany (about 60 years ago.) Most noteably is an ancient luck symbol still used in india.
    🙂

I would have preferred it if they would have used the other version for the shirts, the one with 8 segments, 4 mirror image “L”s.

The movie is re-scripted Farenheit 451, but the gunfights are worth it.

  5. And you will also find that particular symbol on Crusaders’ tunics (and I believe they were unmistakeably Christian), on the sails of Spanish galleons, and in Hagia Sophia, Notre Dame, and assorted other early edifices.
Candidate for the worst movie of all time, hilarious because it is SO bad and the fact that a very famous British actor was in it (the producer must have known where the body was buried): “Puma Man.”

  6. Oh, we saw it.

And we laughed until we drooled on ourselves. Repeatedly. I suppose technically that means we enjoyed it…

  7. Ac7ss, it is worth noting that the so-called “German Swastika” actually WAS taken from East Indian Mythology, and pre-dates Nazi Germany by a good couple millennia or so. Hindu mythology uses the symbol in a right- and a left-facing configuration, as a symbol of good luck, welfare, prosperity or victory.
More information on Wikipedia here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika

More closely, however, it resembles the German Iron Cross.

  8. Aww, those other guys are trying to pull a ‘Roger Ebert’….Equilibrium is a plain old fashioned sci-fi action flick, screwy premise or not, and a darn fun one at that.

Its why movies were called, ‘entertainment’, before Hollywood decided every movie has be brutally logical, and have a logical message.

I think that’s why musicals died off…who would believe a man would sing and dance in a rainstorm on his way home? Insane! (Singing in the Rain reference, also another great movie).

  9. The swastika, or ‘rolling logs’ is also prevalent in American Indian symbolism.
The cross pattee’ upon which the German iron cross is patterned, was the sympoblic ‘Black Cross’ of the German Crusaders. The first modern iron cross, or ‘Knights Cross’ was developed at the behest of King Frederick as an award for courage shown during the French-Prussian War of 1813. It had a ribbon upon which was printed “Gott mit Uns” (God with us), which was the motto of the Prussian Royal House.
The medal went through various minor changes, but maintained its destinctive shape through WW II.
The Maltese Cross, which is often compared to the iron cross, is also a form of the old Greek Cross, which has been the basis for many variations in style. The Maltese Cross is formed of four Vs, which meet in the middle. It is also a Crusader cross, the symbol of the Knights Hospitalliers of the Order of St John, and ancient and honorable order, which like other religious orders, is being given a really bad and undeserved rap by some ill-informed authors of popular novels.

“Through analysis of thousands of recorded gunfights, the Cleric has determined that the geometric distribution of antagonists in any gun battle is a statistically predictable element. The gun kata treats the gun as a total weapon, each fluid position representing a maximum kill zone, inflicting maximum damage on the maximum number of opponents while keeping the defender clear of the statistically traditional trajectories of return fire. By the rote mastery of this art, your firing efficiency will rise by no less than 120%. The difference of a 63% increase to lethal proficiency makes the master of the gun katasan adversary not to be taken lightly.”

  11. it’s one of the few movies i have actually voluntarily watched more than once …

  12. It wasn’t so much that movie was illogical so much as it was our reaction to the scene that boiled down to

“In order to prove your loyalty, you must… KILL THIS PUPPY.”

  13. Don’t know anything about the movie or much about the old cross symbol (other than it was used hundreds of years ago) – but the Tetragrammaton is the term that refers to the name of God in the Old Testament – YHWH or JHVH – which is usually translated LORD in most Bibles (except the old ASV).
