Waa-HOO!

In another little snippet of trivia which does much to restore my faith in Humanity, a Gentle Reader has pointed out that the Texas Freemasons have a Lodge on the moon.

Apparently Buzz Aldrin was not only a Member in good standing of the Masons Lodge in Seabrook, Texas, but he also carried a Special Deputation with him on his historic flight to Luna, authorizing him to claim Texas Masonic Territorial Jurisdiction during the Apollo 11 mission.

On 20Jul1969, Col Aldrin did so.

I note that the Tranquility Lodge is holding its meetings at random cities in Texas until such time as they can hold their meetings at the proper location.

Heh.

  1. Lawdog,

I am currently working up in one of the northern states, ordered an absentee ballot a few weeks ago which it has yet to arrive. If it does not arrive by Halloween, I will hop in my Jeep and drive all the way back to the Republic and cast my ballot. I'll lose about a week of work, a few hours of sleep, and some wear & tear on my buggy, but I will do my civic duty.

All I ask in return is for the rest of your faithful readers (I am one, also) to make every effort to cast their ballot. This election will be decisive for our nation.

God bless America. God bless you and our other LEOs who strive to protect and serve.

  2. So THAT’S where the Templar gold was hidden. Much is explained.

On a sort-of-related, I just reread REVOLT IN 2100 by Robert Heinlein. I know I read the book at least once before but I somehow managed to miss the Masonic angle in the plot. Turrible, just turrible.

  3. Curious. I knew that Brother Aldrin was a member of Montclair Lodge #144 in Montclain, NJ – there was a first day cover put out when he landed. I never heard this story before.

Have you checked with Grand Lodge of Texas?

  4. Interesting. Tranquility Lodge #2000 is, indeed, chartered by the GL of Texas, according to the Grand Lodge’s website, but it also states that the charter wasn’t granted until 1999. Wonder why the 30 year lapse?

  5. Dog’s grandfather was The East for several years, and a 50+ year member of the Masons. I have a vague recollection, now that Dog has brought it up, of my father saying something about Masons on the Moon way back when, but hadn’t thought of it in years.
So I checked with the current Grand Master, and sure enough, yeppers, it’s for real.

  6. OMG – that’s a neat story. My father-in-law was a former Grand Master and never mentioned.

  7. Ha! Take that, Bavarian Illuminati!

I found out back in July I have a great-grandfather who was a Mason.

  8. NEAT story! Hubby just got his GA paperwork squared away for the local TX lodge. I’ll have to pass this along!

  9. As a former Rainbow Girl (Past Worthy Advisor and Past Grand Service in MA) and faithful Gentle Reader, it’s nice to know that Freemasonry has slipped the surly bonds of Earth.

    Thanks, Texas !!

  10. They just had a meeting at a lodge in Balch Springs. I think it was Aubrey Hope, but I could be wrong. I couldn’t go to that one but we hope to be able to make it to the next one, wherever it is.

  11. I am glad to know of Tranquility Lodge. I just learned that the quarterly meeting was held at Aubrey E. Hope Lodge in Balch Springs on 18 OCT. Had I known two days earlier, I would have attended and applied for affiliation.

Eric – – Next stated meeting is in San Antonio on 17 JAN 2009. Perhaps we’ll meet there.

  12. Genesis 1:14-19, we are told that on the fourth day of creation, “God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night.”

Good think he was standing on the lesser light as the greater one is a bit too warm! Fun find.
