One of my weaknesses is — was — Gary Larson’s The Far Side.
While I found most of his cartoons to be side-splittingly funny, I had a particular soft spot for the ones involving law enforcement, and most of those wound up taped somewhere to my desk.
It was a black day when Mr. Larson decided to stop penning these little jewels.
However, all is not lost — we have been introduced to Tundra, by Chad Carpenter.
Obviously inspired by The Far Side, Tundra has the same quality of quirky, surreal humour that tickles my ever-so-slightly “off” funny-bone.
Looks like I’m going to have to clear some space on the old office wall.

Ah… a real find! Thanks
Ah gee thanks, now my brass is polished shiny. Time flies when you’re having fun.
I *love* you. I’ve been looking for a Far Side substitute for years (ever since I read through my collections/Pre History so much that I realised I’d learned them off by heart…)
Thank you! 🙂
Another one that started running recently in the Dallas Morning News is “The Argyle Sweater”.

Dang…that boy ain’t right….
Ah, Tundra. You know, he actually started getting syndication in newspapers?
If you ever come up to Alaska, you’ll find we make free to use half his strips to sell kitsch to tourists who get snarky about other tourists, and the other half to poke fun at ourselves.
Holy snikeys, that is the Good Stuff ™! Thanks for passing along the smiles and laughs, LawDog.
I kinda like Chris Muir myself.
I was dismayed in December to learn that Gary Larson had stopped licensing his cartoons for desk calendars; I’d been using those for years. Thank you for pointing folks to someone with what seems to be a similar intelligent perversity of wit.
wv = “spledome,” which is perhaps a large, open area, deep under ground.

You might take a look there as well.
You might try out Day By Day for a while. http://www.daybydaycartoon.com/
Its kind of a serial thing rather than a 1-off cartoon, so it takes a while to get up to speed on the characters, but its funny, and conservative which is refreshing.
Yay Tundra. I actually discovered this during a trip to Alaska back in ’96. Great strip, Awesome place. wish I was back there.
I find that Loose Parts is even closer to the ghost of Gary Larson. http://www.gocomics.com/looseparts/
