Clown-shoes

I consider voting to be my ticket to complain about the government and the state of the nation in general.

Understand that I don’t hold anyone else to this standard, but I — personally — feel guilty whinging about how the country is going to Hel in a handbasket, without having voted.

This year, though … bloody damnation.

Texas has early voting, so I hie’d meself down to the courthouse and spent a great deal of time staring at my choices in the Republican primary.

As near as I can tell, the 2016 election is going to be based mostly upon which candidate wears the bigger clown-shoes.

On the Republican side, looks like Donald “Weathervane” Trump is the man to beat.

On the Democrat side, it’s a dead heat between Hillary “Why Haven’t I Been Indicted Yet” Clinton and Bernie “Economics is a Latin Word Meaning ‘Free Stuff'” Sanders.

The next four years are really going to be interesting — for Chinese values of the word “interesting”.

Sheesh.

  1. I'm too polite to make a joke about this election coming down to a commie, a crook and a con man.

  2. Dawg,
I am with you in the "Don't Vote? Don't Complain" boat . . . and I LOVE to b**ch about politicians and politics in general, so I vote. Only, also like you, this time around is a kerfluffle in my freaking mind. I'm in the camp of "Anybody But Trump" — but also in camp of "Anybody But a Democrat" . . . which doesn't leave me a hole-lotta-choices. I may pin names to the side of the barn, grab my .22 and a blindfold and see which one I hit.

  3. We sent in our absentee ballots a couple weeks ago. I'm hoping for a miracle that Trump is somehow NOT the nominee. Putting Trump in the White House is like randomly throwing your chips on the roulette table; you don't quite know where he's going to land on any given issue.

  4. I fall into the "nearly anybody but Trump" school. If the final choice is Trump vs an ancient socialist/commie or a not-quite-as-ancient criminal…..

I live in CT, so by the time we go to the polls for the primaries it's a done deal so I've decided not to freak out too much. Yet. And at least Trump isn't stupid, has at least a rudimentary grasp of economics, knows which side his populist bread is buttered on, and isn't beholden to the GOPe or presumably anyone else in the beltway. But yes, electing Trump would feel a bit like playing Russian Roulette with the Republic.

  5. Given a choice (yuck!) between Shrillary and Donald 'something has crawled on my head and died' Trump, I will resignedly vote for Trump. His criminality is slightly less worrysome, he's blustery instead of shrill, and his track record of going off half cocked strikes me as marginally better than Shrillary's of elaborate planning that turns into a mongolian clusterfuck.

I do have to say that Mencken's idea of celebrating the election by throwing the loser off the top of the Washington Monument has seldom been more tempting….

  6. I suppose we're not yet to the Serenity definition of "interesting," so there's that in our favor.

  7. Trump would be like playing Russian Roulette, but with a loaded 1911.

  8. Russian roulette with a 1911? seems a might harsh.

One thing about Trump, I would expect his VP to get some of the heavy lifting in any administration he runs. Just saying.

  9. When I'm disgusted by all the choices, I often joke about writing in Cthulhu, "At least It's not the lesser evil!"

But this year… I'm not sure Cthulhu *is* the lesser evil.

  10. You know whats weirder than this election so far?
The fact that the Republican party elite were willing to state on record: 'It doesnt matter who you [Republicans] vote for, its the party that decides on the canidate'.

If nothing else, Trump is very much the boy who says the 'Emperor has no Clothes'. I find it more hilarious that the news folks are all in twist cause Trump isnt afraid to call them out on their unfair or biased reporting.
