I got spanked when I was a kid. Deserved it, mostly.
Right after my generation everyone started yelping that spanking was bad. Lots of ink spilled about how “spanking was abuse”, “spanking was violence”, and my current favourite: “Spanking children leads to aggressive and violent adults.”
Now I know that spanking — as in most other things having to do with the human condition — is a complex issue, with no pat answers.
So, before you get your Hanes all up in a half-hitch, this is a sardonic post.
How-some-ever, I’m looking at the reactions of all the non-spanked college kids towards Jewish folks in general, and Israel in particular; along with the kittenish antics of college kids over the last couple of years — college kids who are at least two generations into the “Thou Shalt Not Spank” era …
Huh. Doesn’t look like the little bugsnipes needed spankings to become “aggressive and violent adults.”
Again: Cynical amusement.

Amen, Brother!
I didn’t get spanked. I got STRUCK when I was about to do something that would hurt me more, like messing with an electric socket. But I got told ‘NO’ a good deal. If there was time, ‘NO’ would be explained, mostly. But there were limits, and I learned them.
Some of my cousins didn’t get told ‘NO’ nearly enough. Their parents would spend an enormous amount of time and energy working around saying ‘NO’, and I think that was bad for my cousins. They got told ‘NO’ in school, though, enough that they grew up, mostly.
I think these little idiots never got told ‘NO’ by people who meant it. So they are functionally about five. And may never understand limits. As the world grows tired of them they will run into ‘NO’s that matter, and they will spend the rest of their miserable lives SURE they are being put upon.
Indeed. Thank you, Dr. Spock. There is no score, everyone gets a trophy, there are no “winners” (so why try?) and so no hurt feelings. The unspoken part is there are also no losers, kids who LOST, and learned that it wasn’t the end of the world, to pick themselves up and try harder. To win.
Is it just me or has Every single societal change They have demanded wound up damaging America?
